Our Case Studies

Case Study 1 – £4,500 Rising Damp Quote Avoided in Liverpool

Property: Victorian terraced house, South Liverpool
Initial Quote: £4,500 for chemical DPC installation

Background

The homeowner contacted us after a national damp company diagnosed rising damp following a brief visit using moisture meter readings only. They recommended a new chemical damp proof course to all ground floor walls.

The client wanted reassurance before committing to invasive work.

Our Damp Survey Findings

Our full independent inspection — including moisture profiling, ventilation assessment and external fabric checks — found:

  • No moisture pattern consistent with true rising damp
  • External ground levels bridging the original DPC
  • Blocked air bricks restricting under-floor ventilation
  • Minor condensation caused by poor kitchen ventilation

Correct Diagnosis

✅ No damp proof course failure
✅ Moisture caused by bridging and ventilation issues

Recommended Solution

  • Lower external ground levels
  • Clear and reinstate air bricks
  • Improve mechanical ventilation

Result

Simple corrective works resolved the damp completely — avoiding unnecessary wall removal, chemical injections and re-plastering. Cost saving of over £4,000

Case Study 2 – £6,800 Damp Proofing Quote Overturned (South Liverpool)

 Property: 1930s semi-detached rental property
Initial Quote: £6,800 for full DPC injection system and re-plastering

Background

A landlord contacted us after receiving a high quotation from a damp proofing company following reports of damp staining on chimney breast walls.

Our Damp Survey Findings

Our investigation identified:

  • Damp caused by failed roof flashing allowing rainwater ingress
  • High internal humidity and condensation from poor ventilation and tenant drying practices
  • Moisture readings misinterpreted as rising damp
  • No moisture movement from ground level

Correct Diagnosis

✅ No rising damp present
✅ Damp caused by condensation and penetrating moisture from roof defects

Recommended Solution

  • Repair roof flashing
  • Install Positive Input Ventilation (PIV) system
  • Minor internal cosmetic works

Result

The landlord avoided unnecessary chemical treatment and achieved a permanent solution at a fraction of the original cost. Client saved £5,600.

Case Study 3 – £7,200 Damp Proofing Quote Avoided in Crosby

 Property: Detached family home, Crosby
Initial Quote: £7,200 for whole-house damp proofing works

Background

Following a brief inspection by a national contractor, the homeowners were advised their entire ground floor required chemical damp proofing due to visible damp patches.

They sought an independent second opinion before proceeding.

Our Damp Survey Findings

Our full survey revealed:

  • Damp limited to isolated sections of wall affected by cracked external render
  • Rainwater ingress through hairline cracks
  • Existing physical DPC present and fully functional
  • No rising damp present

Correct Diagnosis

✅ Damp was localised penetrating moisture only
✅ No need for invasive or chemical damp proofing works

Recommended Solution

  • Localised render repairs
  • Waterproof sealing treatment

Result

Once repairs were completed, wall moisture levels returned to normal naturally, and no further issues occurred. We saved our customer £6,600.
